I’ve spent most of my life riding equipment at its limit and over the years, I’ve learned to separate real progress from short-lived trends.
Wingfoiling is evolving fast. Materials, shapes, constructions — everything is moving. And right now, we’re clearly entering the next phase of board development.
Hollow Boards Are No Longer the Future – They Are the Present
For a long time, hollow boards were considered experimental. Light, yes — but often questioned when it came to durability and real-world riding.
That has changed.
As more brands recently started releasing hollow wingboards, it became clear that this construction principle is here to stay. Lower weight, faster response, earlier takeoff — once you ride hollow, it’s very hard to go back.
But with this shift came a new challenge:
How do you combine ultra-light weight with long-term durability — especially for riders who jump hard?
Airinside Stepped Up
Instead of just following the trend, Airinside stepped up.
With the release of the HD Construction, Airinside introduced something that, until now, simply didn’t exist:
the world’s first hollow wingboard with full warranty coverage even when you jump it.
That’s a big statement and an even bigger responsibility.
HD is not a cosmetic update. It’s a structural evolution. The box system, deck, and critical load zones are reinforced specifically for high-impact riding, hard landings, and powered freestyle sessions. The goal was never to make the board indestructible — but to make it trustworthy under real riding conditions.
All Airinside Superfly Boards 52-62-72-84-97-111 are now available in HD.
My Experience on the Water
I’ve been riding Airinside boards for a long time now.
And to be completely honest: apart from the very first prototypes, I’ve never actually broken an Airinside board. The STD construction has already proven itself under serious riding.
Still, the HD Construction gives me even more confidence.
Not because something was missing before, but because knowing that the most critical areas are reinforced, and that jumping is officially covered by warranty, changes how you ride. You stop holding back. You stop thinking about the board. You just focus on the session.
The added weight is minimal: around 250–300 grams.
My Superfly 72 HD comes in at roughly 3.8 kg, which is still clearly below the 4 kg mark and lighter than most so-called “ultralight” boards on the market.
What you gain in stiffness and control is immediately noticeable. Takeoffs feel more direct, landings more composed, and touchdowns more predictable — especially in rough or shallow conditions.
Why I Currently Ride the 72
Right now, I’m riding the Superfly 72.
It’s the best compromise for the spot I’m living at Neusiedler See. Shallow water, gusty wind, technical launches. The 72 gives me enough margin when things get tricky, while still feeling compact and agile once I’m flying.
It’s also my go-to travel board. One board that works in many conditions, packs easily, and doesn’t force compromises on performance.
That said, I’m definitely looking forward to downsizing to the 62. For powered sessions and clean conditions, that’s where wingfoiling becomes even more playful and aggressive. But for everyday riding, the 72 HD is hard to beat.
A Look Into the Future of Wingfoiling
For me, the future of wingfoiling is not about chasing the lightest number on a scale. It’s about balance.
Lightweight construction is essential — but it has to come with:
-
structural integrity
-
stiffness where it matters
-
and real confidence for the rider
Hollow construction is clearly part of that future. And HD technology shows where things are heading: boards that are light, strong, and built for how people actually ride, not just how they look in a catalog.
Final Thoughts
The Airinside HD Construction isn’t about fixing a problem.
It’s about raising the ceiling.
More confidence.
More trust.
More freedom to ride the way you want — especially if jumping is part of your riding.
For me, that’s real progress. And it’s exactly the direction I want to see wingfoiling move in.
