This spring in Austria felt like one of the longest winters in recent memory. It stayed brutally cold until March, and only then did the windsurf season finally kick off in a way that made sense. The wind was decent – not epic, but consistent enough – and even though the Formula E season kept me busy, I still managed to score 10 to 12 water days each month. That’s a solid start into the season.
We had quite a few sessions with solid wind that worked for both disciplines. But one moment really stuck with me: a solo sunset session in April, easily the coldest of the whole season. Full power 4.0, straight northwesterly – I was completely alone on the water. Even the light felt cold. It was raw, wild, and one of those rides you don’t forget.
We’ve been lucky lately with plenty of wingable wind. In May, there were even a few decent thunderstorm gusts that made for some quick but intense sessions.
And finally, my personal highlight: unlocking the Pasko at the lake. Landed my first one with the 4.8 in Weiden am See. Such a satisfying feeling after chasing it for a while. The water levels are looking great this year, and you can even ride in Podersdorf with a long mast – pretty rare!
What’s Next?
Now we’re in the beginning of June, and I really hope to get some more sailing days at home before summer fully kicks in. I’ve got a trip to Rhodes coming up – a mix of wind, work, and diving deeper into Reborn on Water, the documentary project that means a lot to me right now.
After that, I’m planning a road trip – probably starting in July. Direction? Not fully decided yet. Maybe north, maybe Portugal – we’ll see where the wind and inspiration take me. I’ll be doing some fly-in/fly-out travel to wrap up the final double-header Formula E weekends, but besides that, the plan is simple: board, van, camera, and chasing moments.
