A Windy Paradise – Fuerteventura at Its Best
Returning to Fuerteventura felt like stepping into a dream of endless wind and perfect waves. Every single day delivered strong, consistent winds, making it an absolute playground for freestyle windsurfing. My most-used sail? The Idol 3.6, perfectly tuned to handle the high-wind conditions and allow me to push my riding harder than ever.
Before this trip, I honestly wasn’t sure if true freestyle windsurfing at full intensity was still possible for me. After years of injuries and setbacks, the thought of pushing my body to its limits for spectacular moves and real progression seemed uncertain. Would my body hold up? Could I still go all-in without hesitation? These were the doubts that lingered before I arrived in Fuerteventura—but I was about to find out.
But this trip wasn’t just about the wind and water. It was also a personal milestone—the first time in years I could sail completely pain-free. After undergoing stem cell therapy in my ankle and knee, I was finally able to fully commit to my sessions without the lingering discomfort that had plagued me for so long. This newfound freedom transformed the way I rode, allowing me to charge harder, jump higher, and focus purely on progression.
The Feeling of Freedom – Pushing My Limits Again
With zero pain holding me back, I was able to push my Flikka FS82 to its absolute limit. I spent hours each day refining my switch power moves against the wave, landing some of my biggest Airfunnels, Burners, and Airskopus to date. The feeling of finally unleashing my full potential was unreal. I could focus on style, height, and flow, rather than worrying about impact and pain management.
One of my biggest challenges during this trip was attempting Double Airburners. While I didn’t quite land them yet, I could feel myself getting closer with each attempt. The process of learning and failing, pushing further, and tweaking the approach is what makes windsurfing so addicting. It’s not just about landing tricks—it’s about the journey to mastering them.
An expected Break – Formula E Season Finale in London
In the midst of my two-week Fuerteventura escape, I took a short but intense break to fly to London for the Formula E season finale with Porsche Motorsport. It was an absolutely dramatic weekend, with Pascal Wehrlein securing the World Championship title in a battle that went down to the wire. The tension, the strategy, and the sheer amount of effort behind the scenes made it one of the most unforgettable events I’ve been part of.
While the workload was immense, witnessing the team’s dedication and seeing the championship victory unfold was incredibly rewarding. But as soon as the final celebrations were over, I was back in Fuerteventura, ready to swap the race track for the ocean once again.
Releasing Stress Through the Wind and Waves
After the high-intensity Formula E finale, windsurfing became my therapy. Two weeks of pure ocean energy, with nothing but the sound of the wind and water, completely reset my mind. The stress, pressure, and long nights of work faded away with every session. It reminded me why windsurfing has always been my escape—there’s no better way to reconnect with yourself than pushing your body and mind to the edge in the elements.
Looking Ahead – The Next Chapter
As my time in Fuerteventura came to an end, my focus shifted toward the future. Next up? Working on the 2025 board shapes. This trip was the perfect testing ground to feel what works, what could be improved, and where to take the next designs. I’m beyond excited to apply everything I’ve learned, fine-tune my setup, and continue chasing the next level of performance.
Final Thoughts
This trip wasn’t just about windsurfing. It was about proving to myself that I could come back stronger, finally riding without limits, and rediscovering the pure joy of pushing the sport forward. Whether it was landing my highest tricks, feeling the direct connection to my board, or simply letting go of stress, Fuerteventura delivered on every level.
The next step? Keep improving, keep innovating, and keep riding. Because there’s nothing better than being out there, fully committed, and completely free.
